Gardening has a way of weaving connections, much like the popular idea of “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon,” which posits that any actor can be linked to Kevin Bacon through six or fewer people.

If you think about it, two gardeners from different parts of the world will likely find a thread tying them together, revealing an intricate web of relationships.

Personally, I’ve experienced this sense of interconnectedness quite often.

For example, my neighbor, who is passionate about gardening, collaborates closely with her local extension office.

Through her work, she engages with a soil scientist from a nearby university, who once presented alongside a celebrated native plant specialist.

It’s amazing how these links can multiply.

Announcement of the Garden Tour

Inspired by this “Six Degrees of Gardening” phenomenon, I’m thrilled to announce that I will be co-hosting an incredible garden tour in England this coming May.

This adventure has its roots in 2015, when a former Fine Gardening editor showcased a stunning Midwestern garden designed by Adam Woodruff.

That visual beauty stayed with me, capturing my imagination for years.

Fast forward to 2020: I reached out to Adam to see if he had any recent projects worth sharing with Fine Gardening.

Much to my excitement, he had moved to the East Coast, close to our headquarters, and had created an exquisite seaside matrix garden ready for visitors.

The article about that enchanting space quickly became one of my favorites over the past 18 years.

During my visit, Adam encouraged me to reach out to the talented UK garden designer, Annie Guilfoyle, hinting at the possibility of collaboration.

Building Connections Through Gardening

Our connection blossomed when Annie and I finally had a phone conversation.

We dove into an enthusiastic discussion about gardening and the potential for collaborative events both online and offline.

This dialogue sparked a partnership with Garden Masterclass, co-led by Annie and Noel Kingsbury.

Together, we crafted an online garden design course that culminated in a live event featuring Annie as the keynote speaker at Chanticleer and Fine Gardening last summer.

It was during a dinner at this gathering that we began sketching out plans for a unique gardening tour slated for May 2025.

Since that first conversation nearly four years ago, Annie has poured immense effort into curating a truly remarkable garden tour experience.

I am eager to share this exciting journey with our loyal readers at Fine Gardening and express my heartfelt gratitude for the connections that have made it possible.

A special shout-out to Adam Woodruff for introducing me to Annie Guilfoyle!

Invitation to Join Us

I can’t wait for the chance to meet you in England in just a few months.

This tour promises not only breathtaking gardens but also the opportunity to connect with fellow gardening enthusiasts from diverse backgrounds.

However, don’t expect to see the actor from “Footloose” joining us!
