Cherry Explores Nancy Heckler’s Pacific Northwest Garden
Hello, GPOD friends!
As we embrace the holiday festivities, I hope you’re soaking in the joyous atmosphere.
In this second installment of our series, we venture back into the captivating autumn splendor of Nancy Heckler’s garden in Indianola, Washington, guided by Cherry.
If you missed the first part of our journey, be sure to catch up for a fuller picture of Nancy and her floral paradise.
Let’s dive in and explore the beauty Cherry has documented!
A Stunning Display of Foliage in Nancy’s Curated Container Garden
Our adventure began at a quaint entrance, framed by intriguing vintage pieces and a colorful array of perennials that invited us in.
We entered through a charming gate located near the garage, where warm light from Nancy’s unique vintage lamps revealed her flair for restoration.
Her business, Luminola, is all about rejuvenating remarkable lamps and lampshades, some of which are displayed alongside gorgeous begonias and an unusual Windcliff plant, carefully kept safe in overnight storage.
Upon stepping into Nancy’s garden, I was instantly attracted to the artful arrangement of potted plants, decorative accents, and eye-catching ornaments scattered throughout the landscape.
A narrow pathway winds gracefully through the lush greenery, leading us toward both the cozy deck and open lawn, each area offering its own unique ambiance.
In future posts, we’ll further explore the fascinating spaces within Nancy’s sanctuary, each tuned to delight the senses.

One striking feature of the garden is a brilliant orange Japanese maple, which boldly contrasts against a backdrop of smooth, oblong stones on Nancy’s porch, illustrating how harmoniously plants can enhance outdoor living.
From a different perspective, we see this vibrant maple comfortably situated in an attractive pot, its fallen leaves creating a colorful tapestry below.
Even Cherry’s charming French Bulldog, Brocc, can’t help but admire Nancy’s splendid array of plants! 😄
The Value of Container Plantings
Every entryway into the garden is graced by delightful bird sculptures, welcoming each visitor with charm.
I can’t emphasize enough the value of container plantings, particularly for conifers! A petite Japanese holly, likely of the ‘Dwarf Pagoda’ variety, shares space with an impressive umbrella pine in dedicated pots, making a notable impression that ground plantings often lack.
Another stunning conifer, presumably a ‘Elegans’ Japanese cedar, is showcased in a pot that pairs beautifully with the umbrella pine mentioned earlier.
Nancy’s collection of eye-catching pots is a sight to behold; some are so captivating that they can stand proud even without any plants.
Here, a striking intricately designed pot holds blue glass orbs in perfect harmony.
An additional large glass orb is accented with bright green moss, not just for aesthetics but also as a protective layer.
Nancy is a true renaissance woman, combining her creative vision in gardening with her passion for restoring vintage lamps and lampshades.
Cherry captured an impressive shot of Nancy’s workspace, filled with her meticulous work, reflecting the same vibrant spirit as her flourishing outdoor haven.
In a heartwarming moment, Cherry snapped a charming picture of Nancy’s dog alongside her own, enjoying a playful afternoon in the picturesque garden—truly a space that welcomes both humans and their furry companions.
Thoughtful Collaboration of Plants and Design
As we conclude this segment, I want to highlight one final showcase of beautiful containers adorning Nancy’s patio.
While many gardeners tend to reserve pots for annual flowers or delicate blooms, the stunning impact of thoughtfully chosen foliage in containers deserves equal recognition.
Thank you, Cherry, for sharing this inspiring glimpse into Nancy’s exceptional garden.
Each new set of photographs unveils a fresh layer of beauty in this landscape, offering delightful surprises with every scroll.
Wishing you all a fantastic weekend! Stay tuned as we reveal the concluding segments of Nancy’s garden exploration on GPOD.
